Joseph M. McMullen
Associate
Joseph McMullen is an associate with the law firm of Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek. His practice concentrates on the criminal defense of individuals and corporate entities in federal and state court in all types of criminal matters. His practice also includes work in complex business litigation.
Mr. McMullen has handled over two hundred federal felony cases involving a variety of charges. He has defended clients before juries and judges in cases involving multiple felony charges, avoiding convictions on all counts in the majority of his trials. He has been designated by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California as an experienced federal criminal practitioner qualified to handle appointments arising under the Criminal Justice Act. He has also argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth and Ninth Circuits.
Education Background
Mr. McMullen received his Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Pomona College in 2000. He also completed some of his undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom at Cambridge University in 1999. Mr. McMullen earned his law degree from the University of Virginia in 2006. While in law school he was awarded the Best First-Year Oral Advocate Award, the Best Brief Award for the New York Region of the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition, and was on the Virginia Moot Court Executive board.
Employment Background
Prior to joining Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek, Mr. McMullen was a trial attorney in San Diego where he represented clients charged with various federal felonies.
